ESL Adventures & Study Tours

Have a blast with these new opportunities to explore the Northwest and learn English.

We collaborate with community organizations, businesses, and guiding services to offer you adventures that are fun, interesting, and safe. 
A short and informative English class is provided to teach language related to the activity so you can begin your adventure with confidence. 

Your facilitator, Jennifer Anspach, is experienced in outdoor group programming and is an ESL teacher.   Below are some of the options available.  Pricing will be determined by the number of people and the details of the adventure.

Saililng Lesson on Lake Unioni Sailing Lesson on Lake Union: 2 – 12 people.

Learn to sail on a small wooden boat on Lake Union and get a fresh perspective of Seattle!  Each boat has it’s own history.  An English class related to sailing, boat orientation & group instruction are included.

Salsa Dancing Salsa & Salsa:  4 person minimum.

Let’s Dance!  We will go out for appetizers at a local restaurant and have an English lesson for dancing and social skills needed for asking people to dance.  This will prepare us for a group salsa lesson & dancing at a club until closing. *There may be a minimum age of 21.

Indoor Rock Climbing Indoor Rock Climbing:  3-12 people. 

Have you ever wanted to try rock climbing?  With good instruction, the support of a harness, rope and experienced climbers, you can feel safe trying this exciting activity!  You don’t have to be in great shape, you just have to have the courage to try!  An English lesson for climbing, entrance good for the whole day, gear and equipment rental is included with your introduction to climbing.  All levels are welcome. 

  Northwest Cooking Class: 9-13 people. 

Do you want to learn to make some delicious, northwest dishes?  Learn some new skills in the kitchen in this hands-on cooking class.   We will prepare and sample Northwest foods using local ingredients.  Includes a 2.5 hour cooking (and eating) class with a local chef and teacher, and a 1 hour English class beforehand, specifically designed for the cooking class. If your group wants, we can also add time to shop for the groceries we need.

Kayaking the Duwamish Guided Kayaking Tour of the Duwamish River:  6-16 people.       

Kayak along the Duwamish River!  This is a unique opportunity to learn about an inspiring and difficult story of a community’s effort to clean up a river destroyed by industrialization.  The Duwamish Cleanup Coalition, in cooperation with local businesses, industries, community groups, the Duwamish Tribe and nature itself are working to restore the river’s habitat one day at a time. A 45 minute English class, kayak rental, guides, and lots of information provided.  Some pre-reading will be helpful.  If your group is interested, we could also do a service learning project in connection with this trip.

  Sunset Sail on Lake Union & Lake Washington: 15-20 people. 

Help sail this beautiful schooner, or just relax.  Includes appetizers, non-alcoholic beverages, and the opportunity to help sail.  A half-hour English lesson is offered on the boat.

All Day Excursions
All Day Excursions can include transportation and meals if your group chooses.

 

Let’s Go to Mount Rainier!  Explore Paradise! 

Join us for a full day!  There’s plenty of time on the drive up to learn about the mountain, it’s history, and the wildlife you may see.  We’ll have both organized educational time with a Park Ranger, and some time to walk around independently.  Transportation, breakfast and snacks provided. BYO lunch or eat at the lodge.   

  Horseback Riding

Includes a tour of the Reptile Museum, a Picnic Lunch on the river, 1.5 hour guided trail ride on horseback, and an English class in a teepee! 

White Water Rafting White Water Rafting or River Float

White water rafting with excellent guides and professional rafting company.  Learn about local rivers and environments.  Enjoy an exhilarating ride while working as a team!  Have lunch on the river. 

CPR & First Aid Training

CPR and First Aid Training 10 person minimum.

Did you know that Seattle is one of the safest places in the world to have a heart attack?  We have a high ratio of CPR certified people, and excellent emergency response system.   We join the American Red Cross to offer a unique class designed for students learning English.  Get trained and certified in CPR and First Aid!  This course will require pre-registration and access to a computer.

The "minimum number" refers to the total number of people needed for the trip to occur - you may sign up individually. Meeting locations vary depending on the activity.
