Christine Davis-Goff, PresidentChristine was born and raised in the beautiful Bay of Islands in the north of New Zealand. She graduated from Auckland University with a Master’s degree in French and then completed a Diploma in Business Studies. In 1990, she began her business consulting career, working with strategic planning and organizational change expert, Wayne Widdis. She has consulted to companies in California, Arizona, New York State, Australia, New Zealand and Chile. In 2009, Christine resumed her study of French at SLA, and later that year was pleased to accept the invitation to join the new Board of Directors as its president. She is now applying her knowledge of strategic change and strategic management in the creation of a dynamic new future for Seattle Language Academy. |

Maureen McLaughlin, TreasurerOriginally from California, Maureen moved to Seattle after completing
her B.A. at U.C. Berkeley. She attended the University of Washington
where she completed her M.B.A. coursework. She retired from Group
Health Cooperative two years ago where she was an Executive Vice President,
and the President and C.E.O. of Group Health Options. Prior to that,
she was the General Manager of PacifiCare of Washington, and the Marketing
Director of Network Management/Network Health Plan, Inc. Maureen studies
French at SLA, loves to travel, and is currently compiling the 300+
letters her father wrote from France and Germany during WWII. |
| | Philip Dickey, Compliance and CommunicationsPhilip Dickey has studied Italian at SLA since 2005, motivated initially
because his brother lives in Italy but continuing because of his interest
in the language and literature of Italy. He completed three years
of postdoctoral research at the University of Washington before making
a career change. For more than ten years he built replicas of 18th
century flutes while teaching and performing Renaissance and Baroque
music. Philip spent the last 19 years of his professional career as
an environmental scientist working to reduce the health and environmental
impacts of toxic chemicals. He retired in 2008 and now devotes himself
to Italian study and travel, photography, gardening, and cooking.

Lois LoontjensLois Loontjens was born in Rhode Island and has lived in Seattle
for many years. She is a student of French in honor of her immigrant
grandparents. Her first immersion in the power of cross-cultural communication
came at the 1985 International Women’s Conference in Nairobi. She
is the Executive Director of New Beginnings, has served on several
non-profit boards, and has worked against violence against women and
children all of her adult life. |

Rebecca OorthuysRebecca Oorthuys was born in Illinois, where much of her childhood
was spent climbing trees and studying insects and birds. After moving
to the Pacific Northwest, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree
in Forest Management. Rebecca worked for the U.S. Forest Service,
Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and the City of
Seattle prior to the birth of her two daughters. Rebecca has served
on the Rivers and Streams Advisory Board of Issaquah City Council,
the Board of Washington Academy of Performing Arts, and the Board
of Western Washington Alpaca Association. In 2005 she and her husband
moved to Capitol Hill in Seattle, where Rebecca enjoys reading, gardening,
knitting, and learning foreign languages. |
